Buy Essential Amino Acids – EAAs
Put simply, amino acids are small protein building blocks. Each protein molecule consists of several individual amino acids. The body can produce most of the aminos itself. Since they are not vital, they are referred to as semi or non-essential. The human organism cannot produce eight of the 20 proteinogenic amino acids itself. These are called indispensable or essential amino acids. Essential amino acids / EAAs comes from the English term Essential Amino Acids. On the other hand, the body can produce all the other important amino acids itself from the essential amino acids.
Since the human body – especially that of athletes – urgently needs essential amino acids, they have to be ingested with food or food supplements.
The eight Essential Amino Acids / EAAS are:
- Non-essential amino acids are either directly synthesized in the organism or made from other amino acids by modification
EAAs supplements or from food?
Protein-rich foods such as fish, meat, low-fat curd cheese, eggs etc. contain many natural, essential amino acids. They also contain other nutrients such as vitamins, trace elements, minerals and fiber. If you eat a varied and high-protein diet, you do not necessarily have to resort to EAA supplements. Due to physical exertion due to endurance, martial arts or strength training, however, an increased need for amino acids can arise. EAAs in particular have a special position due to their positive properties and anabolic and anti-catabolic effects. So if you want to build muscle mass properly, you will often achieve this faster and more effectively with EAA powder or tablets.
EAAs in weight training, competitive and martial arts
Everyone needs amino acids for muscle protein synthesis, which in turn activates the building of new muscle cells, and for optimal muscle regeneration. Intensive, continuous training can promote a deficiency in essential amino acids. If one of these vital building blocks is missing, this triggers a kind of emergency situation in the organism. The body searches for sources in which the important amino acids are present. The muscles are made up of these chemical compounds, and unfortunately the body usually uses them first. If the organism needs essential amino acids more frequently, this can result in a loss of muscle mass. EAAs counteract the muscle-degrading – i.e. catabolic – state and promote an anabolic – i.e. muscle-building – state or they accelerate the achievement of such a state.
Most athletes such as bodybuilders, fitness and strength athletes have long known that a lack of amino acids negatively affects performance, while a good supply of EAAs has a positive effect on muscle building and regeneration.
Effect of EAAs: muscle building and maintenance
EAAs have a positive influence on muscle building, which is why they are particularly popular with endurance, combat and strength athletes, bodybuilders and all other athletes. For many years, EAAs have been used against muscle atrophy, i.e. the reduction in muscle mass, and for building muscle.
EAAs are a quick source of energy for your workout. Essential amino acids are quickly absorbed and used by the human body. The EAAs are in the blood within around 30 minutes and provide the body with the cell building blocks required for muscle building and regeneration.
Amino acid complexes
After an intensive workout, a rapid supply of amino acids is necessary to initiate protein synthesis, i.e. the conversion into the body’s own protein and thus muscles.
Typical amino complexes include EAAs (essential amino acids) and BCAAs (valine, leucine and isoleucine). They are available in different concentrations, as powders – with and without taste – as tablets, pills or capsules. If you want to supplement all the essential amino acids in addition to the amino acids contained in BCAA products, EAAs is a good choice.
EAA Powder: dosage and intake
How much EAA powder you should supplement depends on the one hand on how many essential amino acids you ingest through food and on the other hand on the EAA supplement. The best way to get the exact consumption recommendations is to take the respective product. You can take EAAs individually or with other supplements such as protein shakes.
Many athletes who exercise more than three times a week or are on a diet take EAAs daily. Because if you train intensively – especially with heavy strength and long endurance units – your EAA requirement may be increased.
You can simply dissolve EAA powder in water or your protein shake, or stir it into curd cheese or yoghurt. The best way to take EAAs in the form of pills, capsules or tablets is with a large glass of water.
You can take your EAA powder or tablets before or after your workout. If you are already eating a classic protein shake after your workout, it is usually advisable to take the EAAs before exercising. But you shouldn’t do without training-free days either, because the ingredients of the EAA supplements stimulate muscle protein synthesis.
EAA powder: side effects
So far, no side effects from taking EAA supplements are known. However, since an excess of amino acids can lead to increased production of uric acid, it is not uncommon for you to have to go to the toilet more often.
EAAs, BCAAS or protein shakes
While EAAs contain all essential amino acids in large quantities, BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids) contain more leucine, isoleucine and valine than in EAAs. Both supplements are quickly available to the body. When asked whether amino acids – EAAs or BCAAs – or protein shakes are better, it should be said that each supplement has its advantages. For a fast supply, amino acids are more suitable than proteins. Aminos are freely available in their original form and do not have to be broken down by your body first. They are therefore much more rapidly absorbable than proteins and are in the bloodstream after a very short time. But when it comes to supplying your body with active ingredients continuously and / or with a time delay, protein powders have an advantage (e.g. overnight).
There are a wide variety of EAA supplements on the market. As with all dietary supplements: quality over quantity! Pay close attention to the ingredients and additives it contains, such as sugar or carbohydrates, so that you can find the best nutritional supplement for you.
