What is YK-11?
YK 11 is a substance that was discovered by Yuichiro Kanno in 2011. It is often assigned to the group of SARM (Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators). Consequently, this substance is also referred to as SARM YK 11. As written earlier, it is still debated whether YK-11 is a completely true selective androgen receptor modulator.
SARMs, as the name suggests, bind selectively to the androgen receptor and act there. YK-11, full name (17-alpha,20E) 17,20-[(1-methoxyethylidene)bis(oxy)] 3-oxo-19-norpregna-4,20-diene 21-carboxylic acid methyl ester, also acts selectively. But it also blocks myostatin and provides increased secretion of follistatin. So probably YK-11 is something between SARM and steroid.
Incidentally, YK-11 was originally developed in medicine, where it is still in clinical trials today. It acts as an inhibitor of myostatin. This means that it reduces myostatin, the hormone that prevents muscle growth beyond a certain point.
YK-11 Effect
YK-11 has a steroidal backbone and thus has a high anabolic effect. It is clearly one of the strongest hardcore supplements on the market.
In addition, it blocks myostatin and improves the release of follistatin. Because both of these things ensure that you can effectively build high-quality lean muscle mass, YK11 has also become so popular with bodybuilders, strength athletes, and other amateur athletes.
But what is myostatin anyway, and why should you suppress it? The protein myostatin causes muscle growth to reach its limits after a certain time – in terms of time and volume. This means that the muscle cannot continue to grow from that point on. Taking YK 11, a myostatin inhibitor, causes this point in time to occur later. This allows the muscle to grow longer and also become larger.
In addition to the myostatin-inhibiting effect, YK-11 can cause increased production of follistatin. Follistatin ensures that the muscle grows rapidly. Thus, YK 11 causes the muscle to grow significantly longer and significantly faster.
The supplement YK 11 has a significantly stronger effect compared to other substances, such as the SARM LDG-4033. However, in addition to the stronger anabolic effect of YK-11, this substance is also characterized by the fact that the side effects – in contrast to anabolic steroids, prohormones, etc. – are very low. YK-11 Side Effects
First of all: YK-11 is a really very potent – i.e. strong – substance and not for beginners. Before possible side effects can be described, it must be mentioned that the substance has not yet been tested very extensively. Therefore, we rely mainly on field reports.
Reported were testosterone suppression, increased aggression, mild liver toxicity, which is why Cycle Support is advised. In addition, YK-11 is suspected of increasing blood pressure. This suggests that, unlike other SARMs, YK-11 is not as selective. Hair loss, prostate enlargement and gynecomastia cannot be ruled out in sensitive individuals. However, unlike steroids, consumption was not found to affect potency.
YK-11 for women?
As described in the side effects, it has not yet been clearly proven that YK-11 acts as selectively as other SARMs. Accordingly, androgenic side effects such as virilization, hypertension, hair loss, etc. are possible. For this reason, we tend to advise women against using YK-11 or at least only in very low doses (maximum 4 mg per day) and with caution.
Experiences with YK-11
Experience reports have shown that YK 11 has enormous potential. During the so-called YK-11 Cycle, athletes were able to gain up to 2.5 kilograms of lean muscle mass while losing a full 3% of body fat. The results were achieved within four weeks. The consumer who achieved these values did not pay much attention to his diet. However, they were not athletes either.

YK-11 in Germany: Is it legal?

Here it depends on whether YK-11 is a SARM or a myostatin inhibitor. For both, the possession and use is subject to certain regulations in Germany. According to the Anti-Doping Act (AntiDopG §2 https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/antidopg/BJNR221010015.html) and Doping Substances Quantity Ordinance (DmMV) https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/dmmv_2023/BJNR0430B0023.html the following is allowed:
You are allowed to possess and consume YK-11 from legal sources in Germany in small quantities as an amateur athlete who does not want to gain a competitive advantage with it.
If YK-11 is classified as a SARM, the small amount is 90 mg. You are allowed to possess and use 450 mg of a myostatin inhibitor.

Whether SARM or myostatin inhibitor, YK-11 is classified as doping relevant. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has included SARMs as “other anabolic substances” as well as myostatin inhibitors and myostatin function altering substances on its banned list since 1998. YK-11 is therefore banned in athletically organized competitions.
So please be careful: If you want to participate or already participate in competitions, then it is neither allowed to possess YK-11 nor to use it.
YK-11 Intake and Dosage
Since every body reacts differently to a particular substance, you should always start with the lowest dose and slowly increase. Basically, it is recommended that men take between 5 mg and 10 mg daily. Dosing above 15 mg is not advised. Women should take a maximum of 5 mg daily.
Field reports have shown that in men, taking 5 mg did not show much change yet. Taking 10 mg, on the other hand, showed rapid muscle growth. If you have not taken similar substances or SARMs before, you should start with a low dose so that the body can adjust to the supplement.
Since YK-11 has a very fast effect, this suggests a rather short half-life. You should therefore divide the daily doses. Many users take a portion about 30 to 45 minutes before training. Always pay attention to the dosage and intake exactly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
